Belk Brown Department Store
227 Main Street
When Main Street flourished with department stores, the biggest name on the block was Belk Brown, which operated from this space and eventually took over several others. Frosty Witherspoon was an employee who later went on to open his own shop just down the street.
The Fort Mill Times ran an ad on Sept. 9, 1903 for - W.H. Belk, proprietor The Old Reliable Store. The paper also reported the same day that - "Mr. J.W. Elams has accepted a position in T.H. (Heath) Belk's mercantile and has bought the home of Mr. Bradford, Sr."
